Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Great pizza! Plenty of cheese and toppings, plus their original artego crust is topped with herbs and cheese. Delicious! It was our first time here, and our server Kelsey was great!! She answered our questions and gave great recommendations. Great experience thanks to her.

OK, so it's a pizza place. Pizza is pretty hard to screw up. There are two ways I'm breaking down this review - the physical location and the actual food. Basically, just order whatever you're getting to go or have it delivered. I'll start with the food. I believe we had hummus as an appetizer and then a pizza. Both were really, really, really good. Honestly, given my impressions of the interior of this place, I was surprised. Like, blown away. Personally, I liked it a lot better than Minsky's. It wasn't too heavy (like Minsky's can be) and was just damn good. Even the hummus was great - maybe some of the best I've had in town. Now, the reason my review is only three stars - the interior. God, the interior. I don't know where all the paintings came from, but there are a lot. KC Chiefs paintings (a co-owner was once on the roster for the Chiefs), Bob Marley paintings (there is literally the same exact Bob Marley painting on each side of the establishment...and they face each other), and other images that I've, frankly, burned from my mind. Maybe the owner thinks they're great, but it's a bit much. Also, for a place that's relatively new, the booth seats are already peeling away vinyl. That really, really bothered me for some reason. Finally, when we walked in, Nickelodeon was on the TV and blaring throughout the entire restaurant. To the point where we couldn't even have a conversation because you couldn't hear anything else. It isn't a huge space - volume on anything doesn't need to be cranked up. Other random notes: - I believe all beer is bottles (no drafts). - For whatever reason, they were out of tea that day. Seriously, how do you not have tea. I'll eat Artego if I don't have to step inside, but don't invite me to go hang out there.

Pizza lovers are divided into various camps... those into sauce, cheese lovers, or fans of crust. Artego is for those crust people. I went with a friend on a Monday night and the place was basically dead. Food arrived in a timely manner, and minus one dirty plate, everything was great. We ordered the Pesto Pollo - very fresh - and the Stockyard - not heavy for an all meat pizza. Both were topped with chopped herbs, had next to zero grease, and the crusts were sprinkled with parmesan. I wish we'd asked the waitress for a side of marinara to dip the crust into. I can only assume that their breadsticks are out of this world. I agree that the booths are not comfortable - I'm not sure if they were original to this location or moved from another old bar, but they're definitely worn out and sink in when you sit down. I wasn't moved by the beer list, so stuck with water and waited to have a drink later in the evening. If they had any taps, I would have recommended this as a great place to catch a game on TV. The art in the place is interesting and will resonate with music lovers. Is this my favorite pizza joint in KC? Well, it depends on if you're asking me if I'm in the crust mood or not... if so, I would definitely say yes.

Artego brings a new style of pizza to KC that is much needed! Color me impressed. First things first, the pizza itself - I was intrigued from all the reviews to find out just what kind of style this falls into. I'll do my best to break it down with what I had, which was an original crust with red sauce, house-made meatballs and pepperoni. The generous toppings are piled into the middle of the pizza, allowing the crust to pop on it's own. You know how kids usually leave the crust behind? That's not the case with their style of pizza, it's the star of the show. It's got crisped romano cheese baked onto it, and a mix of buttery and italian spiced goodness. It's legit. The middle portion of the pizza has a thick layer of real mozzarella and a hearty serving of red sauce. While it is it's own brand of pizza, I'd say it most resembles Minksy's, another KC gem. The original crust is definitely a heavier/bready pizza than some others, but they do have a thin crust as well. I got mine to-go, but the owner Joe popped out to say hey when I was picking it up. He's a local owner who definitely seems passionate about his spot and it was good to talk with him and hear about his story. The inside has the classic rock themed paintings all around and definitely has a 'pizza place' vibe. I've been strugggggling with pizza lately, so this was a welcome change of pace and a spot I'll definitely hit up again.

Really really really good. I'll support the local guys any day with pizza like this. My fiancé mentioned on a whim on a Sunday morning that he had seen them of Twitter and the pictures made him want to try it. Now, this is a man who doesn't really like pizza, so I said heck yes. We headed to Midtown for lunch. It's a tiny little storefront. I won't be surprised if they outgrow it. Not a ton of seating but they're going to need it! My fiancé jumped in for bottomless mimosas on Sunday and we ordered their $9.99 large thin crust special. We added mushrooms and roasted garlic for toppings. We really wanted to try their regular crust too so we ordered their Formaggio pizza as well which has an Alfredo sauce base. Both were INCREDIBLY good. The Formaggio pizza was so creamy and rich. The cheese baked into their fluffy original crust made me devour it instead of leaving it behind. Their thin crust was just right. Not under-done. Not burnt. Not soggy. Just right. And it had enough sauce on it to satisfy me but not so much that my tomato-hating partner in crime wanted to scrape it off. There were only two people in the (busy) restaurant helping when we came. It was also Father's Day and right at the start of a Royals game. We say and enjoyed out pizzas and watched the game and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Their servers were busting their butts to help folks so I give them credit for that. Also - killer music selection playing in addition to tons of screens to watch the game! We will be back!

We arrived on a Monday evening and sat outside on the patio. Bf and I were delighted to hear that they had a special running! We chose the Large two topping pizza for $10 and Lordy was it huge! Super cheesy and pizza was crispy with a fantastic crust. We'll be back!
(5)Heath W.
This place gets 5 stars due to its all around coolness. The artwork on the walls is like being surrounded by your own personal rock n roll hall of fame. The music on the sound system backs up that atmosphere. And if you don't like the music- well they have bongos in the corner that you can bang on as long as you enjoy it and can pull it off smoothly. The service is tremendous- very warm, welcoming, friendly, and generous. The pizza is good and I can't wait to try more flavors. The bar and tv setup are well placed and sufficient for any sports watching but not overwhelming where it takes on a sports bar busyness. They have a patio if you want to get away from it and enjoy the outdoors. And the owner makes his rounds sometimes to ensure everyone is satisfied. A fantastic place for a location that has had several tenants over the years. I really hope this one sustains....
(5)James O.
I loved the concept of this place, and I enjoyed the menu, but some of the items didn't really match my expectations. The pesto pollo was good, until you ended up biting into lots of onion (yes it is listed as an ingredient, but I was expecting a dusting of onion as it was the last ingredient. Instead, there was more onion than pesto or chicken). Prices are a little unreasonable, but I think this might change as Artego finds its niche. I would love to visit this place again and see how it changes because it really feels like a good solid pizza venue.

We went on a Tuesday at 5 p.m. and were the only people when we arrived, but by the time we left, there were at least 3 more tables of diners. The servers were incredibly personable and attentive without being intrusive. My husband had the 39th Street and I went for the Formaggio with added spinach, both on original crust. The Formaggio is now my favorite pizza of all time! That alfredo sauce is as rich and luscious as one could ever hope for. The original crust is light almost to the point of being "fluffy," but the outer surface is a lovely, crispy brown that reminded me of a pretzel without the chewiness, if that makes any sense. My only complaint is that they don't carry Diet Dr. Pepper.
(5)David T.
Surprised how good this place was! The garlic cheese bread was really delicious. Same bread the the crust for the pizza. Another review I read described it as like big chain delivery but fluffier. I guess it's like kinda like that but wayyyy better. I'd really reccomend stopping by here for some good pizza.
(5)Robert B.
The owner Joe is gracious and welcoming. This 13 table plus nice sized bar restaurant has every charm of a great a neighborhood spot - and very awesome, very delicious pizza. Lots of beer choices, and the chicken wings at the next table were massive!! Just became a regular here!!
(5)Charley B.
Artego Pizza is a nice quaint little place just to the west of the 39th & Southwest Trafficway intersection. So, the pizza, it's really really good. Filling too. I split a small pizza with a friend and even though each half was only two pieces those pieces were more than enough. Those pieces also featured a healthy amount of the toppings we chose and nice, thick and chewy crust. I can only imagine how large the other pizzas are. The menu does feature a small little graphic, showing the different sizes and offerings however I wish it would note a suggested size for the amount in your party. Layout-wise the room is small, but the restaurant uses its space well. There's a decent amount of seating, but even for a larger gentleman such as myself I didn't have any problems walking in between rows and I didn't worry about joining the next table's conversation. Peak periods will probably be busy and might require a small wait, but that's common almost any where. Otherwise you shouldn't have a problem eating at your leisure. I'm glad that Artego is here and I hope it stays for a while.
(4)Stephanie G.
Any place that offers bottomless mimosas on Sunday is 5 stars in my book. I've been here 3 times now, and each time the service was great. They don't even let you finish your drink before they're bringing you another. The pizza... so good. Fresh ingredients on a garlicky crust. I was hoping Artego would be awful, since it's dangerously close to home, but no luck. It never seems that busy.. I hope this place sticks around. Bottomless mimosas!
(5)Julie S.
This little local pizza joint is great! Delicious crust that has a hint of honey. They load on the toppings, especially on the Veggie Market. Great atmosphere & the owner is always super welcoming.

A- Wow. This place is on fleek. It had been a long week and it was only Tuesday. The wife and I had plans to make an attempt at preparing Cornish Game Hens. By the end of the work day that sounded exhausting to both of us and I suggested pizza and the wife suggested we try Artego. It was cold and snowy but we headed out to their spot on West 39th St, right next to Q39. We were seated and told we had five minutes left of happy hour and our eyes lit up like a dogs at the mention of a treat. And a treat it was. Happy hour goes until 7 p.m. We ordered the meatball app and it came out in a big bowl of marinara sauce and it was very good. Next up came our side salads and for two bucks and some change, the thing was huge and their ranch sauce was awesome. Then came the pizzas. Oh boy. It was like traveling back to a simpler time when the crust was perfect, like an 1980 pizza smorgasbord / joint. Crispy, not too thick and very buttery and toasty and lots of sauce with the toppings covered by a thick coating of greasy cheese. Toppings under the cheese! Like the pizza of my childhood! And the place is extremely reasonable. Two personal pizzas, a meatball app, two side salads, two beers and a glass of wine for $40. And the best news came at the end- they are going to start delivering and we are in their delivery zone. Hip hip hooray! I know what I'll be eating on Sundays now... ps. Service is good. Very friendly and knowledgable. And the place is very clean. pps. Everyone mentions in their reviews that the art on the wall is amazing. It's not. It is basically posters that are then painted on. But to each their own.

I have absolutely nothing bad to say about Artego. Which is rare for me because, well, I'm judgy. I went yesterday and just ate the cold leftovers and debated of going back tonight would be too much. Wednesday's half price wine but we didn't indulge. Not in wine anyway. Started with the cheese bread. It comes not in sticks but essentially a giant loaf smothered in cheesy love. Outside edges a little crunchy but the inside almost doughy but not under cooked. The marinara taste pretty zesty and I had ranch (Midwest) and it had some zing to it. We got the Artego Spice pizza to share. In a large so six reasonable pieces. It was more than enough for the two of us. Topping highlights included jalapeños, red onions and sausage. I normally don't like sausage but this one wasn't greasy or gritty textured. The crust was the pizza shaped version of the cheese bread and just as good. I really couldn't stop spewing compliments. Everything was so good. I really didn't want the flavor to ever end. Dare I say, the best pizza is KC? I think I do dare.

Ate here recently after seeing the review in the KC Star. Overall, the pizza was good, but the whole place confused me. They were trying to make it Italian, with the names on the menu, but the pizza was not Italian at all. Everything was very American-ized. Don't get me wrong, the pizza was yummy, but it was pan style. I imagined it being a more authentic, brick oven style. The atmosphere was sort of like a bar, with loud music and the old rock stars on the wall, but then the prices were like a much nicer restaurant. Really overpriced for what it was. Overall, it was good pizza if you're feeling pan style, but don't go here expecting an Italian experience.
(3)Sarah V.
Terrific pizza!!! The vibe from workers was not very friendly or warm, though. It made me feel slightly uncomfortable, like I shouldn't be there. Once again, the pizza itself was great.
(3)Mitch G.
A perfectly good neighborhood spot - will be back. Best pizza in KC! However as of 8/9 they are closed.
(5)Lauren M.
So there's nothing like a delicious, perfect, saucy piece of pepperoni pizza after a long day at work. Our server was able to recommend my husband good beers. I loved everything about our experience (atmosphere, service and taste of food). I'm usually a cracker/thin crust person, but we got hand tossed and I ate all of the pizza. The crust was delicious and had a good yeasty flavor to it. Great experience, and I would definitely recommend it to any pizza connoisseur.
(5)Crystal M.
Absolutely sinfully delightful pizza! I had the 39th st Pizza, and don't let the cheese fool you, they totally pile on the toppings under that glorious mound of cheese. I'm shocked that there only 3 tables eating here at noon, all the cats that are parking outside the restaurant seem to be going to Q39, which is also very good, but come on people, your missing out on a golden crusted gem!
(4)Kara H.
We ordered a four-cheese pizza that was so rich it was overwhelming to eat much of it. Our second try was much better - I'm a big fan of pan pizza which is probably how you would characterize Artego's pie. I really enjoyed the crust as it was thick but light, and flavorful. I agree with a previous reviewer who said the restaurant atmosphere felt more like a bar with a rock music twist that happened to be serving pizza. We brought our kids when we came and there were no high chairs, boosters, kid coloring sheets or anything like that. Just odd for a pizza place, as that's a food that tends to attract families (even in Westport). We might do carry out in the future but I can't imagine Artego will be a mainstay for us with D'Bronx just down the street.
(3)M C.
This is a front for a little Caesar's. Swear to god its a Hot n' Ready. The crust is sponge like and toppings are sparse. As you get farther from the center, the dough gets less cooked. Stick to crappy NYE parties
(2)Bill B.
This restaurant is in a location where many restaurants have failed, although the location is excellent, with one of the best parking lots in the 39th St. area. This lot is a few blocks east of restaurant row. While I am less than sympathetic with the failure of some of the restaurants that have previously been at this location, I do believe that this one has real potential. The walls of this restaurant are covered with the art of Alexander Austin. The paintings are huge and impressive. Also the sound system providing music to the restaurant is first rate. You have to come to this restaurant to appreciate the atmosphere of its dining room. The current menu is for the new restaurant's opening. Much more is planned. We had the house salad, the caprese salad, the veggie market pizza, and the Marguerita pizza. We were very happy with everything, including the service. But the choices were limited, including the choice between only two house wines by the glass. But the owner explained to us the plans for the future regarding food and wine, and we were impressed. There is somewhat of a problem with the booths. Evidently they are not new, since the cushions sink in as if they had been used for many years. Perhaps the owner can come up with some sort of cushions that can compensate for the inadequate support from the booth seating. I have high hopes for this new Volker restaurant.
(5)Jerod A.
We had the 39th Pizza. Very good. Savory. Delicious crust. My lad had the Pinot Grigio wine and she seemed pleased. Good ambiance. Modern chic decor. I'll be back.
(5)Luke K.
Very good. Pizza is quite cheesy but some people are really into that. We had the Pesto Pollo and it was really good, especially the crust. The booths were super uncomfortable and they don't have beer on tap. Overall a good lunch experience.
(4)Andrew M.
Many restaurants have passed through the space that Artego Pizza now resides at through the years so I was curious to see what they were like. We were the first to arrive for dinner (it was very early, I admit) and the music was WAY too loud. I asked our server if it could be turned down and they did. They didn't have beer on tap so I ordered a bottle -- hopefully they plan to change this soon. The breadsticks were a bit doughy in the middle but still quite good so I didn't mind. We ordered a pizza with the regular crust -- wasn't a big fan of the crust in general but the cheese melted into the end was a nice touch. Will try the thin crust next time. The owner did come by to talk to us and ask us about how things were and I appreciated that. In sum, they show promise but in my opinion have a ways to go if they are going to last longer than their predecessors. Will definitely be back soon but my expectations will be raised. Stay tuned!
(4)Nathan L.
Great service & great pizza. Delicious spongy crust. Thanks Joe & Rebecca. I'll have to come back.
(5)Guillermo V.
As a big pizza fan this place confuses me. It is an interesting style; not fancy Neapolitan, not thin crust the size of your face slices like New York style, not deep dish Chicago. The best way I have been able to characterize this is like fast food chain pizza but made really well. The crust is buttery and garlicy. The pizzas toppings are pretty good and they use good ingredients. This is not the best pizza in KC but its well priced and pretty good for what it is. I have found myself craving it more than I expected.
(4)David M.
Friendly staff, great local artwork and excellent food! Joe Perez has put together a perfect concept of pizza goodness! Being a long time pizza snob, it has easily made my Top 3. The thin crust is my favorite next to the 39th Street with original crust.
(5)Melissa S.
Just returned for the 4th time. Still amazing food! I branched out and got the Pasta Angelina and it is SUPERB and sooo filling! Numerous people ordered the humus and seemed to really love it so may try that next time! The owner is ALWAYS here meeting people and talking with customers---it's really refreshing! You must try this place!
(5)Julie G.
The BBQ Chicken Pizza was absolutely amazing!! Service was wonderful! As well as bottomless mimosas! Never had an empty glass until we were ready to leave!
(4)Jerry H.
The staff was rather attentive, maybe a little too much. The wings were cumbersome and messy. But the pizza was excellent. I would advise to skip the almonds as a topping. They were superfluous and had a weird mouth feel. Pepperonis were soggy because they were on the bottom of all the ingredients instead on the top were the maximum cooking potential happens. Totally going back though. Super good pizza.
(4)Donna W.
My husband and I wandered in here one night while driving by out of curiousity. We saw the artwork from the street and were intrigued. It was a delightful dining experience. The food was really good and fresh and our server was friendly. It seems to be a great addition to the 39th street district and we can't wait to go back!
(5)Raven B.
This is the first pizza I have had since moving to KC a few weeks ago. As far as pizza goes, it gets 3 stars. The crust was delicious but it is rather thick for my taste. I usually don't eat thick crust pizza or even eat the crust of pizza simply due to the empty carb calories. I must say this was the first crust I've eaten in ages. But like many think crust pizzas the crust take up about 1/2 the real estate. The toppings and cheese, both very good are just in the center. We ordered a large margarita and added Italian sausage as I saw on yelp that they do their own sausage. It was delicious. This pizza is somewhere in between a Chicago deep dish and a thick crust pizza, probably why I liked the crust so much. The $2.99 side salad is a great value. Will I come back? Mostly likely after I've been dancing for 5 straight hours or have been at the gym for 3 hours. I'd love to report about Fake Vegan but he is mad at me for the Vintana review. I am sure he will surface when he get's lonely.
(3)Mrinal P.
Best pizza base of my life.. you can make your own toppings too.. 5 stars slow service (maybe coz it's new and working around the Hugh crowd showing up).. 4 stars
(4)Kylie E.
They aren't open until midnight, but the cheesy bread, awesome staff, and killer atmosphere make it so worth it!
(5)Melanie G.
Came for brunch. Bottomless mimosas. Our server, Josh, was amazing! Best pizza I've had in KC. Being from Chicago (we have the best pizza), I always have very high standards when it comes to pizza, but this is the best pizza I've had in KC. I had the Stockyard and loved it. I came with a big crowd around 12 people and we all enjoyed our meals, the service, and the atmosphere. Great music and art around the walls, as well. The owner came by and talked with us for a while, too. This is definitely our new spot and we plan to return very soon.
(5)Andrrw M.
Formaggio and Wings. Mmmmmmm, can't wait to try all the other pizzas. Friendly service but a little slow.
(5)Andre d.
9:00 on a Friday. Good pizza. Screwed up our order for an appetizer. 4 people in the restaurant and wait staff blames the kitchen. Ridiculous. Doubt we'll be back.
(2)Michael S.
Minskies has long held the crown when it comes to pizza in my mind, but tonight they just got overthrown. Artego Pizza is hands down the best pizza I have ever had anywhere. The original crust was fluffy and crisp with Romano cheese baked right into it. The thin crust was perfectly crispy but not a cracker. Exactly how we like it. Eat here immediately and often.
(5)Sarah S.
I was very impressed. Went there on their "grand opening" night. Even though it was busy, service was good. Got mozzarella sticks for an appetizer. They were pretty good, and the pesto sauce they came with was amazing. Veggie pizza for the main course, and it rocked my world. Hoping they get beer on tap soon, but everything else is stellar!
(5)Matthew S.
After settling in to a booth in a small dining room filled with slightly-too-loud-for-conversation and aggressive music (get off my lawn!) for dinner time, I perused the menu options. Great variety of choices and reasonable prices. Great start. What? I said "GREAT START!" My friend and I ended up ordering 2 small pizzas, which ended up being plenty for us to take 3/4 of a pie home as leftovers. So, what's it like? Seriously, this pizza was like a timewarp to cashing in on all of that Book It reading at Pizza Hut in the late 80s. The crusty-edged, fluffy, substantial pan crust was such a dead ringer for that old Pizza Hut style that it made me nostalgic. And that isn't all bad. It's delicious. It's also overwhelming. That oily, flavorful crust overpowered the rest of the pie so much that it was hard to tell the difference between the different varieties. If I could taste the toppings, I bet they'd be delicious, because the combinations are thoughtful and the ingredients looked great. But alas, you might be just as well to order breadsticks and just soak up this powerful crust, which is delicious in its own right. And if your experience was like mine, they'd come with friendly and prompt service, and a free helping of 90s alternative rock. With the wealth of amazing pizza choices in KC, I'm not sure I'll be rushing back here, but they're doing a decent job with a pie that certainly stands out from the crowd, for better and worse. Perhaps I'll return after reading 5 more books.
(3)Jennifer O.
Amazing restaurant. The best pizza I've had in KC. The crust is great. Staff is friendly and helpful. Wonderful artwork and space. We'll be back.
(5)Tim M.
Food was great. Service top notch. Decor excellent. Music a refreshing mix of classics. On the recommendation of a friend, I got The Stockyard pizza, thin crust. It was loaded with toppings. Very good, it reminded me of Pizza 51. The only downside was the crust wasn't very crispy, but I think that's because they don't skimp on the toppings. And they didn't just refill my soda, they brought a new one before I had finished the first. Obvious attention to detail. Friendly staff. I love this place.
(4)Kalindi V.
4.5 from me - big fan of the pizza crust! They describe it perfectly; its a crunchy crust that's soft on the inside, with just the right amount of seasoning. We had the BBQ Chicken pizza. The BBQ sauce is so perfect! It's got the right balance of sweet and spicy. We also had the chicken wings. If you like wings from the Peanut, you'll really enjoy these. The buffalo sauce (the only flavor they offer) tastes very similar to the Peanut, maybe a little less vinegary. I've seen some people complain about the service. We didn't experience that at all! We've only been on a weeknight when it wasn't crowded at all, but the waitstaff was always attentive, and the food came out at a reasonable time.
(4)Tom G.
PIZZA was great. Calzone as well. Joe the owner was affable and friendly. Our server was very attentive, too. The 39th Street Pizza was my favorite. Artwork is great, music, too. Definitely a place we would return to again and again if we lived here. Instead it's a place we will remember well.
(5)Danen H.
Watch out Minskys, you got competition, the crust on the pizza is delicious, and the sauce just right. I have been converted.
(5)Jennifer P.
Great pizza, garlicky, buttery crust. Fresh toppings and fresh mozzarella. Good atmosphere and service. Owner stopped to say hi and tell us about the artwork. We will definitely be back.
(5)James M.
In town for niece's wedding and had rehearsal dinner at Artego. Wonderfully accommodating, terrific atmosphere and very tasty pizza. Excellent experience.
(5)Nick N.
Visited Artego today and was highly impressed with the food and the service. I'm pretty critical of pizza places since I own one myself but this one was an all around great experience. Will be back for sure.
(5)Mary G.
Amazing pizza, service and staff!

At artego tonight, and the pizza and wine was delicious! I had the artego spice pizza and it was both sweet, spicy, and delicious! The crust of the pizza was a meal in itself, definitely enough food for one even getting a small pizza. Perfect amount of cheese and seasoning. The owner was very friendly and welcoming! The decor and seating is modern and comforting, definitely a place to hang out with good friends for a couple hours on the weekend. Will be returning soon!

Where to begin... Myself and a few friends went here during restaurant week. I was pleasantly surprised by all aspects of this restaurant. Pros: First and foremost the pizza was phenomenal! There was a perfect balance between toppings, sauce, and crust. Many places I have had pizza from before have a lot of crust with little toppings and sauce. In my opinion, this was the BEST crust I have ever had with a pizza before. It was flavorful and fluffy which is the best combination. The sauce was extraordinary and tasted like it was fresh out of the garden; tomatoes and spices both. We also tried the sopapilla dessert pizza. I am Mexican so I know what a traditional sopapilla tastes like. This was interesting, in a good way, because there was cream cheese as the main ingredient. It was almost over-whelming at first taste but once my taste buds adjusted from the main pizza it was easy to see how this was a popular choice. Another thing I enjoyed about our visit here was the owner. He came out and greeted us and we had a 10 minute conversation about our thoughts on the place. He had told us he had only been open for 3 weeks. He also shared with us the background of the art on the walls. It was a nice conversation which he also recommend another great restaurant close by. A lot of owners are competitive in nature but he seemed to just be trying to get his stuff together and giving his customers a satisfying experience. Cons: My husband and I didn't really any negatives at all. Since we came here during restaurant week the advertised price was $33 for an app, a 12" pizza, and a dessert pizza along with a beer on tap or a glass of wine. If it is normally higher than that I would say that may be the only draw back.

I really loved their pizza crust. It's buttery and crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside just like it. I also appreciate the choice of getting Alfredo sauce on our pizza. It has a lot of flavor and I'll definitely order it again.

Wonderful pizza and wonderful wine! The owner makes sure everyone feels comfortable and even adjusted the air for us without asking! Definitely worth trying. Plus there is a parking lot which is rare for 39th street!

The ingredients are super fresh and the food is prepared with care. The decor is absolutely fantastic. Sundays offer bottomless mimosas and you can build your own mezzaluna any day, which is the equivalent of about 2 large slices of pizza. The Caprese is a must have in my book, with fresh mozz and a balsamic reduction that will put any other to shame.

Really really good pizza! There was a VERY LARGE group coming in at the same time that we went and it threw their game off a little. However, the Madrena pizza more than made up for it. My daughter said "it tastes like heaven!" We will be back.

Took the family to Artego based on Yelp reviews. Location is right off of Southwest Trafficway on 39th Street. Location has a parking lot. Atmosphere is decent. Decor is nice. Tables are a bit small for a family of four but that is because the portions of their food is ridiculously big! Chicken Wings: full order was more than enough for us. Taste was very good Hummus: The wife considered it the best she has ever had House salad: Again, the full order is great for a family of four. Taste was great. Added the chicken and went with ranch dressing Pizza: had a large with salami and italian sausage. One word. AMAZING. Toppings were flavorful, cheese was great tasting, sauce was good. The crust. Oh the crust. Absolutely out of this world. Service: everyone was very nice and our waiter was great. He deserved the 20‰ tip that we gave him. Value: Artego was having a Big 12 special. The pizza was 12.99. Plus because we had green on we got 20% off our bill for St Patricks Day. We found the cost of dinner for what we got to be a great value. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends and family and plan to go back!

Love the crust! Clean place, great music, awesome pizza. The cheese breadsticks appetizer was also delicious. Only critique is the music was a little loud.
(5)Jewelee L.
The best pizza ever! My husband had a calzone which was also delicious. Great service and amazing art! We loved this place and will be back soon.

Joe Perez has created such a fun and artful atmosphere to enjoy kansas cities best pizza! If you're looking for a cool hangout and a place to have the best cheat meal, this is the place! The pizza is the perfect blend of cheeses, toppings and crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside crust. I'd highly recommend Artego pizza to anyone looking for a relaxed fun atmosphere with great drink specials and Pizza you'll write home about.

Delicious pan-style pizza with yummy crust. The meatball appetizer was delicious, and the portion on the side salad was surprisingly generous for the price. The server was kind and helpful with beer selection, and the owner chatted us up and made sure we had a great experience. All the warmth and friendliness of a good neighborhood joint. We'll definitely be back. Also, we hear they're starting delivery soon -- can't wait!

Yes. So much yes. I will be spending many of my hard earned dollars here. The Stockard was magnificent. The balance of ingredients were perfect and the portions were just right. I appreciate the beer selection, there's something for everyone without the overkill that you see at many places. The only thing I'd like to see is a better selection of local brews, Boulevard has saturated the market. Overall I was a very happy with this spot.
(5)Nick P.
Not too impressed, I was super excited when I saw the signs for a new pizza place in the neighborhood...they have your typical big name crap beers; they don't even have a boulevard, what a shameful act being a few blocks away from the brewery! Asked many questions about the dough fermentation and was stared at blankly with a "like, I can't believe your asking me this." Many of the ingredients I asked about are all canned, not much is fresh. It's clearly a place devised for a strip mall in the suburbs. I don't think they will last long. People in this area clearly lean towards food done informatively well. It kind of reminds of that freebirds burrito in Westport. There's just too much competition in the heart 39th for this place to do well. Maybe they'll see overflow from Q39, just like taco republic does from Oklahoma joes. Just ate my pizza and it was as suspected. The dough had zero bite, zero rise from the heat, zero bubbles, zero everything. The dough is obviously not wet enough before fermentation and the heat is way too low for a proper thin crust....service is good though, but they're not too busy. I'm going to monitor reviews before I return for a second round.

Probably our favorite pizza spot. The crust is awesome and everything always tastes super fresh. The pasta is amazing too.

My husband and I stopped in here today to buy tickets for an event, and we ended up staying for lunch. We had never heard of it, but we may have found a new regular favorite. The atmosphere was pretty relaxed and had a good vibe. We split the 39th St. pizza, and it was amazing. Vegetables were fresh, the thick-sliced Italian sausage was awesome and the crust was delicious. After the pizza, we tried the Nutella pockets, which I highly recommend. I believe our waiter's name was Chance, and he was great. Super friendly and attentive without being overbearing. It speaks a lot to the quality of food and service that we had no idea this place only opened a couple of weeks ago until we looked it up later.

Amazing pizza, and a Happy Hour with 50% off drinks! The small pizza was plenty for me. Be sure to try the BBQ Chicken Pizza!
(5)Carl R.
Amazing pizza. The "crusty-edged, fluffy, substantial pan crust", to quote another reviewer, was the selling point for me. I'm not usually a crust person, but for this pizza I definitely am. The specialty pizzas were well thought out too. I had the Madrina pizza and would definitely have it again. Who wouldn't love cream cheese on a pizza??
(5)Paige S.
Delicious! I had the veg pizza loaded with toppings and the crust to die for. The art is amazing. I'll be back for sure!
(5)Greg R.
I like supporting local establishments and this one is well worth it. The pizza was delicious. Plus the happy hour prices are great. I'd recommend this place to anyone. We had the Padrino on original crust and my son, who doesn't usually eat his crusts devoured these. Then we ordered the Sopapilla pizza for dessert and it is amazing! We had the opportunity to meet Joe, the owner and you can tell he really wants his place to excel. I'll be back. And again, and again.
(5)Shannon B.
Awesome pizza! Great customer service! Everything was clean and fresh. I was rather surprised when I arrived. The restaurant was perfect!! The owner was also Fabulous!
(5)Cait M.
I highly recommend checking this place out! The pizza, the beer, the atmosphere, the music.... It all makes for a great dinner out. If you spot the owner walking around, ask him about the paintings.. theres a really awesome story behind them that will make you love the place even more!
(4)Liz M.
Love this place! The food and the ambience is incredible! Tried the Formaggio and it may be the best pizza I've ever had. The crust is so fluffy and is a meal itself. I will be back.
(5)Kristen B.
The atmosphere is fun with the oversized pop culture paintings hanging on the walls and the candle lit tables. We ordered the fried mozzarella and a medium pizza. The fried mozzarella was good, however there were a few that just had the breading and no cheese inside. The pesto dipping sauce was fantastic! We ordered a pepperoni and meatball pizza. The pizza had a good crust and tasted amazing! Our favorite part was the crust as it had cheese and seasonings baked on top to almost make a breadstick. The owner stopped by and was very welcoming. We will definitely be going back to try more menu items!
(5)Angie C.
We had the 39th Street pizza...it was delish! The pizza crust was light and airy with a yummy cheesy buttery flavor. Great mix of topping and the sauce was excellent. Very cool place! You can tell there is love put into the pizza. Owner told us they make the pizza dough fresh daily.
(5)Eric T.
I've been here several times and it has consistently great pizza. Can't wait til they start delivering!!!
(5)Rob N.
The pizza turned out to be about 50% outer crust with a tiny circle of toppings in the middle. Would rather eat at Pizza Hut. At least I get my money's worth there.
(3)Lawrence T.
Wow, I was pleasantly surprised with the $10 any large on Mondays and then concerned that by the time I made it home after a few stops it would be soggy. No worries, the thin crust held up very well even after more than an hour in the car. The 39th Street had lots of cheese, sausage and veggies. All of the staff were also very nice and happily accomidated my special requests. I'd go back tomorrow if I could eat pizza everyday!
(5)Dan M.
Ate there the first time during their Grand Opening! Had a beer, started with mozzarella sticks which were standard but awesome house made sauces, the the veggie pizza which had awesome fresh veggies and amazing dough! Didn't make it to desert but will be back for it! There was a tech issue with the payment, which they tried to fix but when they couldn't get it to work Joe Perez came over explained the situation and bought our meal! Their food, service and ownership was awesome I will be back!
(5)Jim G.
Not only are the toppings delicious, the crust is a dough connoisseur's dream -- full rich flavor had me eating several more slices than I thought I possible could. The place is built using a number of recovered materials, so very eco-friendly. Great staff, over-the-top artwork, Just terrific. The calzones were fab. The wings were yummy. And there's even a bar! Plan to be a regular as travel permits!
(5)David S.
Came here on a whim. Very glad we did. This is the best pizza we've had in a while in KC. Look out Minsky's.
(5)Megan H.
I walked in at about 10 p.m. on a Monday night after not being able to find much else open. They're open until 11. My boyfriend and I were the only people in the restaurant at that point, but they were extremely nice, not annoyed at all by our late arrival. We ordered a large 39th Street pizza, which the waiter informed us was on special for $10 (all large pizzas are $10 for all of Monday, I think he said?). It was so, so good. The ingredients were awesome, but the crust was some of the best I've ever had. I don't usually like crust, but this really impressed me. It's very light and fluffy, with a nice garlic flavor. Even as reheated leftovers the next day, all the flavors tasted amazing. Great food, great service--I can't wait to go back.

I never write these so bear with me...As a west 39th resident, I'm always looking to add to the restaurant rotation. This place is definitely going to be filling in some gaps that I have. Menu has a good selection. Not too much but still enough that there are multiple things I want to try. Big plus - great choices for portion size. I can eat alone and not have too much our bring the whole family in and know they will be fed. It was also nice to have a good glass of wine with my meal. Point being... These folks are not reinventing the wheel but instead just doing what they do right. And even though it was late on a Friday night and Missie B's was hopping, there was plenty of parking. Music was a tiny bit loud but I am thinking this might be a good spot to watch the next game. Seems like they have some good specials too...something about bottomless mimosas, $10 large pie night and half off wine night (bottles and glasses)...Not sure which days.

What a bad pie! Anyone that gave this place more than 2 stars, based on the pizza, must have been high. I know, high on 39th street! Never! I guess I'll get the redeeming factors over with... The décor is hip and cool, the bar is I__I shaped which I like, they have nice TVs, sexy lighting, its open late, and its ideally located on the revitalized hip 39th street. However, in typical Kansas City fashion, the pizza fails. I've noticed about 4 new pizza places pop up recently and wrongfully became excited. "Could this be the Pizza Renaissance KC needs" I thought.! Simple answer: Nope. There are a couple good pizza spots in Kansas City, but really, just a couple. Grinders and Johnny Joe's, you can stay open, good pie! And then Spin and PizzaBella for the whole artisanal thing. As for the rest of the pizza places... how anyone recommends their product is beyond me . Lets take this new place Artego for example. I ordered a medium hand tossed with peperoni, green peppers, and red onion. A very simple pie. First of all, they put the topping on, then the cheese. But that's just a minor problem. Let me try and think of a good word to describe the consistency of the pizza... Spongy? Soggy? I think "Terrible" works best here. Good luck even picking up a slice. Most likely the cheese and toppings will just slide off the top exposing the moist undercooked dough. And to top it off, $20! Sorry Kansas City, stick to BBQ. Take your Minsky's, honey drizzled Joe's, and D'Bronx, and go burn another one down. You'll certainly need to for Artego. 2 stars for friendly staff and cool space.

First time trying it tonight. Pizza is great and the art is amazing. We got the hand tossed 39th street pizza, basically a supreme. The crust is light, airy, slightly chewy. I'll order the exact same thing next time I go. It all looks good though. Delicious - go try it!

2 words, Nutella bites. Little pieces of pizza Dough filled with Nutella and covered in powdered sugar.
(5)Lil D.
Best wings and pizza in town. Mark the bartender is easily one of the best around! Reasonable prices too.
(5)Carolyn K.
Ambience is excellent! Very cool, I loved the artwork! Very intimate and inviting. The owner John was really nice and asked how everything was with our meal. And our server was very hospitable and helped us with any questions we had. We had the margherita pizza, which was amazing! Everything was delicious! We will be back soon!

We went to Artègo Pizza had the best pizza ever. The space is incredible, Joe Perez is a great host (owner) he makes everyone feel welcome as he stops by every table and chats and we even talked him into getting into the photo booth with us (That alone was worth the visit). We wrapped up the evening sitting at the bar laughing so hard my stomach hurts today. Get ready Joe, we are going to be hanging out there a lot.
(5)Brian G.
great atmosphere, great food! Pizza soup a must. Loved the pizza, particularly the crust! Great décor with the paintings on the wall. Definitely a keeper.
(5)Sam F.
Pizza is terrible. People that rated this place good need to get out more often.
